WHO ARE HOMETOWN FESTIVALS?
Hometown Festivals are the team behind the awesome Petersfield Festivals. All events are organised by Ben Errey and Steve Jacob with help from their amazing team of part time crew and volunteers. Ben and Steve created Hometown in 2011 in order to rescue the August Bank Holiday Petersfield Festivities, with only six weeks to prepare. They saved and rebranded the event and haven’t looked back since. Now Hometown Festivals organises four large events each year in Petersfield, plus event consultancy, catering, bars and equipment hire. Every effort is made to ensure the highest quality from start to finish, which includes everything from the wide range of performers on our stage to the award winning sausages on our catering operation. This attention to detail (plus hundreds of hours of planning by Ben and Steve) is what makes our events totally awesome.
Ben and Steve are both proud residents of Petersfield with Ben being born here in the very town and are heavily involved in the community. Both are members of Petersfield Round Table (although Steve is now too old to be an official member any more) and help to raise thousands of pounds for charity each year. Ben is a previous Town Councillor and Steve organises charity quizzes each year.
WHERE IS THE FESTIVAL?
The Petersfield Spring Festival, Summer Festival and Christmas Festival Market are all held on Petersfield High Street, the market square and Chapel Street in Petersfield, Hampshire.
During our events, we close the roads to traffic to allow people to enjoy the festival in safety.
HOW DO I GET THERE?
Petersfield is in the heart of the South Downs Nation Park in Hampshire, England. Although a small market town it is very well connected by public transport.
By Train – Petersfield Railway Station is on the Portsmouth to London Waterloo line. Portsmouth is 25 minutes away and London Waterloo, 60 minutes.
By Bus – Local bus services and coach links to the surrounding areas are available.
By Road – Petersfield has excellent road links as it is situated just off the A3 London to Portsmouth road and the South Coast lateral link, the A272, providing easy access to Guildford and London to the north, Midhurst and Petworth to the east, Portsmouth to the South, and Winchester to the west.
Sat nav – GU32 3HJ – will direct you to the market square in Petersfield, although the road closures will be in place before you reach this point but parking is available nearby.
IF THE ROADS ARE CLOSED IS THERE A DIVERSION IN PLACE?
As part of the planning process, we have to put a diversion in place when the roads are closed to traffic. To allow for any planning in driving around Petersfield, please see the diversion route which will be in force.
WHERE WILL I BE ABLE TO PARK?
As we are in the centre of Petersfield, all main public car parks will be open for the duration of our event. Please check individual car parks for the restrictions and charges which may apply. A map of available car parks are below. As our events are also on Sundays and Bank Holidays, the public roads will be available for parking.
The events are very popular and so we do suggest you walk in to join in the fun and leave the car at home if this is possible.
WHAT TOILET FACILITIES ARE THERE?
We have paid for extended opening hours at the public toilets on St Peters Road and there are also the public toilets available in the central car park by Waitrose. See the map above.
IS THERE DISABLED ACCESS AND FACILITIES?
There are disable parking bays in all local car parks as well as the additional parking in nearby public roads. Our events are on the public roads, pavements and market square and so disabled access is kept clear at all times as it would be if the event was not on, it will just be a tad busier!
All public toilets have disabled access as standard.
HOW ARE THE EVENTS FUNDED IF THEY ARE FREE TO ENTER?
We are not Petersfield Town Council organising this event for the town. We are not East Hants District Council organising this event for the town. We are not a large multinational corporation with huge budgets and a team of staff.
Hometown Festivals are a non-funded group consisting of Steve Jacob and Ben Errey who work tirelessly to put on these free-to-enter events for all to enjoy.
The events remain able to be free to enter due to the generosity of local business who sponsor our events, booking fees from the stall holders who attend and then Hometown Festivals also run the Festival Bar and a Catering stall on the main square.
Without all of these things, the events would not be able to happen and so please continue supporting the generous local businesses who help us and shop and trade locally. While you are at the event please take your time to browse the stalls and purchase some of the awesome items on sale. Then finally come and relax in the main square and enjoy the free music which Hometown Festivals organise and pay for you and kindly support us by buying a drink or two from the bar and grabbing an award-winning sausage for lunch!
Over the last few years Hometown has built up strong relationships with marvellous local companies who generously support our events and help us fulfill our vision. Since we began there have been many but we especially wish to thank LMC Vehicle Hire, LittleJohn Bathrooms, The Red Lion, The Spice Lounge Restaurant, Cox Manning Rothmans Accountants, The Townhouse and Barons Hindhead. CAN I BRING MY OWN FOOD AND DRINK?
Hometown Festivals spend many many hours organising and putting on these events for everyone to enjoy for free and so we would prefer you come along and support the event by buying your drinks from the Festival Bar and eating food from the catering stalls at the event.
We do not ask for an entry fee and yet the quality of the musical line-ups we have at our events, easily rival line-ups at other paid for events and so appreciation and support for the hard work put in over the years would be gratefully appreciated.
The main square should be kept free of glass to ensure the area is kept clear and safe for people to walk around without fear of treading on broken glass. At the Festival Bar, situated on the main square, we serve our drinks in high quality eco-cups to avoid any accidents. If we do see anybody with their own glass they have brought to the event, we may ask you to go and buy an eco-cup from the bar to use to keep everyone safe.
CAN I JOIN IN?
Hometown Festivals are always looking for ways to involve the community in their calendar of events, so if you have any ideas please do get in contact. We are currently looking at setting up an official charitable arm of our company, details of which will be released as soon as we know them. In the meantime, we welcome local charities and community groups to attend our events and continue to raise funds through engaging with the thousands of people who attend.
CAN I HELP?
Hometown Festivals are always looking for volunteers to help us out with a spot of marshaling or general help over the festivals. Putting on these large events takes a lot of planning and organising and then a large amount on manpower on the day to help the events run smoothly and safely.
